Wednesday - 20 August
Yikes. My left arm was seriously sore this morning. Woke up in the middle of the night and thought I'd been lying on my arm or something, I could hardly move it.
Did 40 mins of weight training again. This time targeting different muscle groups, but my half-lame left arm didn't help much.
Des says the first couple of weeks are going to be hard on my body. It really needs to be shocked into shape right now, but that in a few weeks time, I'll be laughing at the weights that I'm training with now. The barbells that I used did look ridiculously small indeed, compared to what the more 'in shape' people at the gym were working out with.
Ah well, in a few weeks' time, I'll be one of them :-)
Did another 20 mins cardio afterwards. And the Polaris heart monitor sure came in handy. Whereas before I'd have to rely on the heart monitors on the equipment, now I have my own, and I know exactly how many calories I've expended, and when I'm getting out of the fat burning and into the cardio range (trying to stay just under that).
Looks like you lose a lot more calories by working with weights than by doing cardio. At the end of the 60 mins, my Polaris showed that I'd lost 843 calories. Only about 200 of those were during the 20 mins on the treadmill. Which means I've lost about 650 calories during 40 minutes of weight training.
Going to check that with Des on Friday ... sounds unbelievable.
Last night, I had my first 'treat'. Ang and I went out for supper. Had some sashimi with a greek side salad, so I think I pretty much stayed within the diet. It's nice to see that one can still lead a 'normal' life too, even when on the USN challenge.
